The International Symposium on Musical Acoustics (ISMA) edition 2014 is done and was a great success: 170 registrants, 120 scientific papers, 6 plenary lectures, 6 conferences days. ISMA 2014 has brought together the world’s researchers on musical acoustics in areas including instruments physical modelling, experimental techniques for sound or instruments characterisation, analysis and synthesis of sounds, human perception.
Two original workshops have been proposed on instrument making : practical methods of instrument building presented by ITEMM (Institut Technologique Européen des Métiers de la Musique) have engendered the meeting between instrument construction and acoustic research. Six practical sessions have been organised : piano, guitar, woodwind instruments, brass instruments, accordion, sound engineering. At the Cité de la Musique in Paris have been workshops that combine the history of patrimonial instruments, instrument construction, musical performance, and acoustical science. Two events, a scientific concert by the musicians of Ophonius and a public lecture, have been proposed for effective public dissemination of musical acoustic subjects.
ISMA 2014 has been held at Université du Maine - Le Mans, France -, 7-12 July 2014. It has been organised by the French Acoustical Society (SFA).
